Apple pulls Nest products from online and retail stores

[/url]

Shortly after the debut of the first round of HomeKit (http://www.imore.com/homekit)-enabled products last month, Apple has pulled Nest (http://www.imore.com/nest) products from its online store, as well as its retail locations. Apple confirmed the removal of Nest products to Mashable (http://mashable.com/2015/07/23/apple-pulls-nest-thermostat-from-stores/):

Apple confirmed to Mashable it has pulled the web-connected product — considered the first mainstream smart home product — from its shelves and website. The move comes as the first batch of smart home products that work on Apple's HomeKit platform become available for purchase.

The first HomeKit accessories were unveiled in early June (http://www.imore.com/here-are-all-homekit-accessories-buy-now), including the Ecobee3 Smart Wi-Fi Thermostat, which is a direct competitor to Nest's own smart thermostat.

This isn't the first time Apple has removed products from its stores: shortly after the Apple Watch (http://www.imore.com/apple-watch) was announced, Apple also removed Fitbit products (http://www.imore.com/fitbit-products-disappear-apple-online-store). Given that Nest, now a Google-owned company, hasn't announced plans to support HomeKit — opting to help develop Google's competing Brillo platform instead — it's unclear if we'll see any Nest products return to Apple Stores.

If we were to guess, if and when Nest adds HomeKit support, which includes security and reliability requirements, it could very well wind up back on the shelves. Apple Stores are becoming increasingly curated and Apple is focusing on stocking the stores with products that provide the best experience for their customers.

Source: Mashable (http://mashable.com/2015/07/23/apple-pulls-nest-thermostat-from-stores/)
