Amazon reportedly beats Apple TV in 2014 as streaming video gets serious

<p>Amazon’s decision to enter the media streamer business has paid off, according to a study from Parks Associates.</p><p>The research firm found that Amazon’s Fire TV (http://www.techhive.com/article/2141724/streaming-hardware/fire-tv-review-amazons-set-top-box-is-cooking-with-gas.html) and Fire TV Stick (http://www.techhive.com/article/2854343/amazon-fire-tv-stick-review-a-cheap-quick-and-dirty-path-to-prime-instant-video.html) took third place in U.S. device shipments last year, overtaking Apple TV. Still, Roku (http://www.techhive.com/article/2923221/streaming-hardware/roku-3-review-voice-search-is-worth-shouting-about.html) held onto its lead from 2013, with 34 percent of shipments, while  Google’s Chromecast  (http://www.techhive.com/article/2045493/streaming-hardware/review-googles-chromecast-puts-most-of-the-internet-on-your-tv-on-the-cheap.html) remained in second place with 23 percent.
