Apple met with self-driving car officials from California's vehicles department

Apple held talks with self-driving car experts in California, according to documentation obtained by The Guardian. It's believed one of Apple's legal counsels, Mike Maletic, had an hour-long meeting on August 17 with self-driving car experts from California's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Just what these discussions covered is currently unknown, but it could be the company is preparing for the Apple Car (http://www.imore.com/apple-car).

Among those present were Bernard Soriano, DMV deputy director, as well as Stephanie Dougherty, chief of strategic planning, who happen to be co-sponsors of California's autonomous vehicle regulation project. This isn't the first time Apple's rumored car project has been covered by the British newspaper. It was only last month when The Guardian reported that Apple was on the hunt for a test track (http://www.imore.com/apple-reportedly-has-been-scouting-locations-test-its-titan-self-driving-car).

From The Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/sep/18/apple-meets-california-officials-self-driving-car):

"If Apple does seek a testing permit for its Project Titan self-driving car, it will have to sacrifice much of its legendary preference for secrecy. Manufacturers applying for a permit have to detail the make, model and vehicle identification number (VIN) of cars they want to test, share details of autonomous features and capabilities, and identify test drivers by name."

While we've no concrete evidence as to what exactly Apple has in the works, it's clear the company has plans in place for something involving automobiles. The Guardian also notes that Apple has indeed appointed an engineering program manager to Project Titan, which could mean they're preparing to move up a gear with whatever may be behind closed doors.

For now, we'll have to simply endure the wait for more information to leak out.

Source: The Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/sep/18/apple-meets-california-officials-self-driving-car)
