Apple reportedly acquires machine learning startup Perceptio

<div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Apple has reportedly snapped up another startup, this time in a company called Perceptio. The company develops technology related to deep learning, using image-recognition systems to teach computers to identify objects with through visual input. <!--break--> From Bloomberg (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-05/apple-acquires-startup-developing-advanced-ai-for-phones):</p>

<p>Perceptio's goals were to develop techniques to run AI image-classification systems on smartphones, without having to draw from large external repositories of data.</p>

<p>As is usual for acquisitions, Apple gave the following response when asked about snapping up Perceptio:</p>

<p>"Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans," said Colin Johnson, a company spokesman.</p>
