Shure Motiv mics roundup: Portable powerhouses for USB and iOS

<p>Shure has been in the mic and audio business for 90 years and many of the mics you see on stage at concerts and nightclubs carry its brand name. But despite a number of companies—startups and old hands—releasing mics aimed at the amateur and professional podcaster, home musician, or field interviewer, Shure stayed out. Its Motiv line (http://www.shure.com/americas/motiv/overview), introduced in late summer, jumps in with both feet. I had a chance to evaluate three of the mics and found they’re solid entrants when portability and versatility are figured in.</p><p>I tested the Documenter (http://www.shure.com/americas/motiv/mv88) (MV88, $150), the Performer (http://www.shure.com/americas/motiv/mv51) (MV51, $200), and the Communicator (http://www.shure.com/americas/motiv/mv5) (MV5, $100).
