Byline: J Keirn-Swanson Byline: J Keirn-Swanson Enhanced Teaser: Unless you don't count Gizmodo buying a "lost" fourth generation iPhone and stripping it down to post every last nook and cranny of the device, it was kind of a slow week in Apple news. And you have to admit, that newest iPhone does look pretty sweet.Okay, but hands up, who really, really thinks that iPhone was lost on accident and not a plant to keep the Apple fans' fevers at high pitch? All right, now that we've settled that, let's see what else happened in this week's best of Mac|Life. Unless you don't count Gizmodo buying a "lost" fourth generation iPhone and stripping it down to post every last nook and cranny of the device, it was kind of a slow week in Apple news. And you have to admit, that newest iPhone does look pretty sweet.Okay, but hands up, who really, really thinks that iPhone was lost on accident and not a plant to keep the Apple fans' fevers at high pitch? All right, now that we've settled that, let's see what else happened in this week's best of Mac|Life.Features:- Cycling Apps --When Nerds And Bikes Collide - You know how they say there's an app for that? Well, in this case, it's true. Outfit your iPhone for bike riding geekitude and track yourself on GPS, then share it with your Twitter followers. We'll even know when you've been hit by a bus. Just don't try mounting your iPad to your handlebars.- Supercharge Your Mac with Great Gear - Just like a Camaro without a spoiler, a Mac without some fine, fine peripheral action is still cool, but think of how much cooler it could be. But with all the gear out there, what's the best choice for external hard drives or printers or chrome rims? We've got you covered – at least on the Mac end.How-Tos:- Create a Guest Wi-Fi Network - Whenever we go to people's houses, one of the first things we want to do is jump on their Wi-Fi, especially if they live in small towns with Edge network access only. Your friends probably feel the same way over at your place, but do you really want to be handing out your network password to those jokers? Ah, but we know a secret. We know how to set up a guest network, so you can dole out some goodies and keep your security tight.- Edit & Share Office Files on Your iPhone - Most everyone still uses MS Office in some fashion, but the problem is, there's no Office app to keep things in synch. But, with a couple of different apps, Dropbox and Quickoffice, your iPhone or iPad can become your mobile network point of access.Reviews:- Speck CorePack Fly Messenger Bag - The search continues for the messenger bag to rule them all. If it has enough pockets, it's too bulky; if it's sleek and stylish, the internal compartments are garbage; if it's stylish, has the right pockets, and isn't bulky, it costs a mint. Speck's CorePack is nice enough, but the search continues.- Roth Music Cocoon MC4 - Probably one of the prettiest iPod docking stereos we've ever seen, the Roth is a disco party even without music. Pricey and fancy – it even comes with special gloves to handle it, lest you taint its purity – the Roth is also an immense music snob. Even worse than those guys at the indie record store. So unless you keep it at the highest lossless rips or pop in a CD, your 128kbps .mp3 files will be shown the door. News:Lang Lang is one of the more attention hungry concert pianists we've seen and his latest trick, whipping out an iPad in place of a baby grand is one sneaky gimmick...maybe a bit less gimmicky is WXFL's dropping their news anchors' paper scripts for iPads, but weren't they using teleprompters already?...okay, snark aside, the person we really love for going iPad is this 100-year-old grandma. No, you read that right, Virginia's very first computer ever is an iPad...let's just hope she's not having Wi-Fi connectivity issues; but if she is, we have some advice to help her out...and since she's a poet, can we guess that Virginia is probably not pirating comics, even though she's been around to have heard nearly every publisher's and producer's lament of thieves?...and yes, Virginia, and everyone else, you can find a good cheap stand for your iPad, if you haven't thrown your original packaging out, that is....and if you do get yourself an iPad, after reading this, you might want to have it delivered to your home, and then not take it outside for a while....but if ABC's free programming doesn't give you a reason to stay indoors with your iPad, maybe that decision will force Hulu to keep it on the cheap or free side, then you'll have plenty of reasons. Our friend the iPhone has been seeing some huge growth numbers lately too. Only thing is, they're not in the United States (*cough AT&T cough*)...for instance, check out these numbers in Japan. Holy moley! 72% of all smartphones are our little buddy...we're guessing if Farmville does come to the iPhone, that that'll be big in Japan too...just like Sonic, which is running loose in the App Store as we speak, for those of you lusting after a little of that old skool action...but you know what's still not coming to the iPhone (or iPad for that matter)? If you said Flash, pat yourself on the back, as Adobe surrenders...in the what-the-heck category to put up there alongside that video of Windows 95 running on the iPad, we have this hack, which lets someone run the sub-par Android system on the iPhone. Oh, the humanity....and we won't bother posting anything about the fourth generation handset Gizmodo got their hands on, because who hasn't read about that yet? What we will tell you is that AT&T practically said "Yes, here is when you can have your new iPhone" in their latest quarterly earning conference call.
