Back in 2016, Apple announced a $1 billion investment (https://9to5mac.com/2016/05/12/apple-invests-1-billion-in-chinese-uber-competitor-didi-chuxing/) in the Chinese Uber competitor Didi Global, with Tim Cook saying the investment (https://9to5mac.com/2017/04/20/apple-didi-chuxing-vision/) presented a variety of strategic opportunities for Apple. The investment also earned Apple a seat on Didi’s board (https://9to5mac.com/2016/10/11/apple-didi-chuxing-board-seat/).

Now, just days after going public with a US IPO (https://9to5mac.com/2021/04/09/apple-backed-didi-chuxing-files-for-ipo/), Didi Chuxing is under fire for illegally collecting user data, and the China Cyberspace Administration has now ordered the app to be removed from the App Store.
