Title: Uber Eats' latest destination for autonomous food deliveries is Miami Post by: HCK on December 16, 2022, 04:05:02 pm Uber Eats' latest destination for autonomous food deliveries is Miami

Uber Eats (https://www.engadget.com/tag/uber%20eats/) has expanded autonomous food deliveries to Miami under a new partnership with robotics company Cartken. AI-powered robots will start making deliveries from select retailers in the Miami suburb of Dadeland today. The companies plan to expand autonomous deliveries to other parts of Miami-Dade County and more cities in 2023.

Uber Eats started (https://www.engadget.com/uber-eats-launching-two-autonomous-delivery-pilots-today-in-los-angeles-064252194.html/) two autonomous delivery pilots in Los Angeles in May after teaming up with Motional (https://www.engadget.com/uber-motional-food-delivery-partnership-183107550.html/) and Serve Robotics (which spun out of Uber). In September, Uber Eats agreed a 10-year deal (https://www.engadget.com/uber-eats-nuro-autonomous-food-deliveries-texas-california-045758421.html/) with Nuro for autonomous food deliveries, beginning in Texas and California.

Cartken also works with Grubhub on college campus deliveries (https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/grubhub-and-cartken-partner-to-bring-robot-delivery-to-college-campuses-301566245.html/). Its six-wheeled robots use NVIDIA Jetson tech (https://www.engadget.com/nvidia-jetson-agx-orin-price-release-date-163327815.html/) along with sensors and cameras to help them avoid collisions and take routes with fewer hazards. The machines, which are built (https://www.magna.com/stories/news-press-release/2022/magna-and-cartken-to-collaborate-on-autonomous-delivery-robots/) by Magna (https://www.engadget.com/tag/magna/), have a cargo capacity of 1.5 cubic feet, which is roughly the same (https://www.restaurantdive.com/news/uber-eats-cartken-autonomous-delivery-miami/638788/) as two full paper grocery bags. They can travel at up to six miles per hour, depending on conditions and the environment.
Source: Uber Eats' latest destination for autonomous food deliveries is Miami (https://www.engadget.com/uber-eats-autonomous-robot-deliveries-miami-cartken-151913191.html?src=rss) |
