Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra vs. the competition: A new titanium contender

<p>Samsung formally unveiled its <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Samsung Electronics;elmt:;cpos:1;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=f85e63cd-e13c-4f9d-991c-9fbaadede3ac&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Samsung+Electronics&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsImxhbmRpbmdVcmwiOiJodHRwczovL3d3dy5zYW1zdW5nLmNvbS91cy9zbWFydHBob25lcy9nYWxheHktczI0LXVsdHJhL2J1eS9nYWxheHktczI0LXVsdHJhLTUxMmdiLXVubG9ja2VkLXNtLXM5Mjh1emtmeGFhLyIsImNvbnRlbnRVdWlkIjoiODZiZGQ0NDktNGQxOS00MDMwLWE2YjUtZDQ5NzA3YzkwYWJjIn0&amp;signature=AQAAAXrbHEv4xo0i5dAmT6A-wb5mOuSQOXg6mqkGwVpyzPpr&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.samsung.com%2Fus%2Fsmartphones%2Fgalaxy-s24-ultra%2Fbuy%2Fgalaxy-s24-ultra-512gb-unlocked-sm-s928uzkfxaa%2F" class="rapid-with-clickid" data-original-link="https://www.samsung.com/us/smartphones/galaxy-s24-ultra/buy/galaxy-s24-ultra-512gb-unlocked-sm-s928uzkfxaa/">Galaxy S24 line of smartphones at its latest Samsung Unpacked event on Wednesday, including its newest flagship, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. For a fuller idea of what to expect, you can check out my colleague Sam Rutherford's <a data-i13n="cpos:2;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra-hands-on-a-fresh-titanium-frame-combined-with-a-big-bet-on-ai-180050005.html">hands-on impressions. In short, though, the main updates are a new titanium frame with flatter edges, a <a data-i13n="cpos:3;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/samsung-pledges-seven-years-of-updates-for-s24-series-180844109.html">promised seven years of software updates, an expected processor bump, a slightly tweaked camera setup and a host of new <a data-i13n="cpos:4;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/samsungs-galaxy-s24-lineup-puts-generative-ai-front-and-center-180034530.html">generative AI features. Starting at $1,300, the device is also $100 more expensive than <a data-i13n="cpos:5;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-review-specs-price-photo-and-video-take-center-stage-140034341.html">its predecessor, though there are some <a data-i13n="cpos:6;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/how-to-pre-order-the-samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra-180028971.html">early pre-order deals to lessen that blow a little.</p>
<p>If you're thinking about taking the plunge, we've broken down how the Galaxy S24 Ultra compares to two other top-end handsets, the <a data-i13n="cpos:7;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/iphone-15-pro-max-review-apple-makes-a-strong-case-for-its-biggest-phone-130018980.html">Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and the <a data-i13n="cpos:8;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/pixel-8-and-pixel-8-pro-review-googles-most-compelling-phones-in-years-specs-price-170022742.html">Google Pixel 8 Pro, on the spec sheet. As always, specs can't tell the full story, but if you want a reference for what $1,300 (or more) gets you in early 2024, here's how the new phone stacks up.&nbsp;</p>
