As reported by the CBC (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/kaslo-search-and-rescue-wildfire-1.7277770), the hikers were stranded on a glacier after wildfires began to approach them—and the conditions were so bad that first responders nearly had to abandon their rescue attempt.</p>
