Google Talking To Verizon About Tablet Product

Verizon spokesman Marquett Smith said via a phone interview that Verizon Wireless and Google Inc. are currently in talks to develop a tablet computer that would try and go up against the iPad according to Bloomberg.  But he declined to give more information, and said that Verizon would be releasing more details later this week.  "Everyone is going to have a device that is going to compete with the iPad," said Al Hilwa, an analyst with research firm IDC in Seattle.  "Apple created that market, legitimized it.  Everybody has seen that this is going to be huge."Google is planning on keeping their lips sealed for now according to a company email.  "Anyone can take the Android platform and add code or download it to create a mobile device without restrictions," Google said.  "We look forward to seeing what contributions are made and how an open platform spurs innovation.""Obviously, the carriers want to get in on this gig," Hilwa had continued.  "It's going to be very competitive."  Hilwa also said that Apple got a head start over any potential rivals by releasing the iPad in what he called a "very mature form.""It's probably going to take a year to two years for them to get to the same functionality as the iPad," Hilwa stated. If this does come to fruition, for those who have not yet purchased an iPad, are you more likely to jump for a Google tablet or wait for the next version of the iPad?  Feel free to leave comments below!Image courtesy of geeky-gadgets.com
