One of the reasons, Google bought Motorola for $12.4 billion was for its patent portfolio. However, it looks like things haven’t worked out for Google as they had planned, as the U.S. International Trade Commission upheld a judge’s finding, which invalidated Motorola’s sensor patent. Incidentally, it was the last patent remaining in the investigation of Motorola’s October 2010 complaint against Apple.
