There were rumors earlier this month that said Verizon was going to start selling the iPhone 5 for $99, a full $100 cheaper than Apple’s suggested retail price. Technically, the rumor turns out to be true, but not really. According to Gotta Be Mobile, who spoke to Verizon, America’s largest wireless operator is currently targeting the $99 iPhone 5 at people who are currently on Verizon, but who don’t have a smartphone.
