iPad Air 2 NFC support could mean small businesses could use it as a cash register

The iPad Air 2 is equipped with Apple Pay, thanks to the Touch ID sensor embedded within the Home button. Unfortunately for someone who might want to pay at a McDonald’s with their tablet, though, that functionality isn’t supported. So, why does it offer NFC support?
