There’s never been a better time to cut the cord.</p><p>
After years of tying its best content to cable, HBO recently announced that it will offer a  standalone streaming service  (http://www.techhive.com/article/2834118/hbo-shoots-back-at-netflix-with-plans-for-standalone-streaming-video-service.html) in 2015. CBS followed up with  its own standalone streaming announcement (http://www.techhive.com/article/2834500/new-cbs-all-access-joins-streaming-service-trend-but-many-strings-are-attached.html), and Showtime is looking into  (http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/hbo-to-launch-over-the-top-service-in-u-s-next-year-1201330592/)the concept as well.
