Apple leads smartphone charge claiming most market share

In terms of OEM market share, Apple (http://www.imore.com/apple) took the lead with 41.7 percent market share whereas Android was seen as the leading platform with its market share divided between Samsung, LG, Motorola, and HTC. On the Android device manufacturer side, both Samsung (29%) and LG (6.9%) showed a slight uptick in market share compared with the prior quarter ended in June, whereas both Motorola (5.4%) and HTC (4.4%) suffered a small decline of 0.5 and 0.4 percentage points respectively.</p> <!--break--> <p>In terms of platforms, Android leads with 52.1 percent followed by iOS with 41.7 percent and Microsoft with 3.6 percent. Both Android and Microsoft grew its market share slightly compared the the prior quarter ended in June 2014. BlackBerry commanded a 2.3 percent market share and Symbian still hangs on with 0.2 percent.</p> <p>ComScore also looked at what's on your phone. The usual suspects lead app usage on your devices, including apps from Facebook and Google with Facebook leading the charge, followed by YouTube, Google Play, Google Search, Pandora, Facebook Messenger, Google Maps, and Gmail rounding out the top 8.
