<p>Way back in 2014, European lawmakers made a broadly sensible proposal that could have hurt Apple. The European Union’s <a href="https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32014L0053" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Radio Equipment Directive[/url] called for a European charger standard asking all smartphone manufacturers to use compatible chargers.</p>
