iPhone 6 preorders set new overnight record for Apple

The newest iPhones went live for pre-order at midnight Pacific time last night, and while there was plenty of glitching along the way, that didn't stop many from getting in their order (http://www.imore.com/iphone-6-pre-orders-live-what-did-you-get). Apple isn't alone in the new bigger iPhones being an overnight pre-order hit — AT&amp;T's said that pre-order demand for the phones was greater than the last two phone launches (https://twitter.com/Ryan_Knutson/status/510403289188675584).</p> <!--break--> <p>In a statement to Re/code (http://recode.net/2014/09/12/larger-iphone-6-plus-sells-out-amid-strong-demand-for-apples-latest-crop/), Apple said:</p>

<p>"Response to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been incredible with a record number of preorders overnight."</p>

<p>Of course, that's a vague block of time, "overnight", but a record number is still a record number. To put things into perspective, Apple didn't offer pre-orders for the iPhone 5s (http://www.imore.com/iphone-5s˽&quot;iPhone˽5s:˽Everything˽you˽need˽to˽know&quot;), but did for the iPhone 5 — and pre-sold more than 2 million in the first day (http://www.imore.com/apple-announces-first-day-iphone-5-pre-orders-top-2-million).</p> <p>Pent up demand for a larger screen iPhone seems to be getting released here for sure.
