Apple reportedly acquires machine learning startup Perceptio<div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Apple has reportedly snapped up another startup, this time in a company called Perceptio. The company develops technology related to deep learning, using image-recognition systems to teach computers to identify objects with through visual input. <!--break--> From
Bloomberg:</p>
<p>Perceptio's goals were to develop techniques to run AI image-classification systems on smartphones, without having to draw from large external repositories of data.</p>
<p>As is usual for acquisitions, Apple gave the following response when asked about snapping up Perceptio:</p>
<p>"Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans," said Colin Johnson, a company spokesman.</p>
<p>As we
reported last week, Apple also recently
acquired speech recognition company VocalIQ. Considering the company's
recent push to hire specialists in artificial intelligence and machine learning, it seems that Spotlight search and Siri, which saw vast improvements in iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan, may only get better down the line.</p> <p>Source:
