Canada's National Film Board has launched a new game onto the App Store called I Love Potatoes. While the name may sound ridiculous, the NFB is using the game as a way to educate children ages 9-12 on the issues of social innovation and a sustainable economy. As for the game itself, I Love Potatoes plants players in the shoes of a character named Chips who must figure out a way for his village to survive after it suffers misfortune. Along the way, you'll interact with other residents of Potatoland to survive in an effort to fend off the Potatosaurus Monster. Here's a quick rundown of what you can expect from I Love Potatoes:

A FREE, quirky and addictive adventure game that puts a fun twist on educational apps.

Beautifully rendered 3D animation featuring adorable characters and great storytelling.

Encourages family and friends to work together towards a common goal.

Illustrated by OscarĀ®-nominated filmmaker Patrick Doyon (Sunday).

Created by the NFB's Digital Studio, winner of over 100 awards worldwide.

Co-created with Minority Media Inc., who brought you Loco Motors and Spirits of Spring.

BONUS: Includes background information on the social innovators who inspired the game.

In addition, the game features characters that are inspired by real-life people who have affected social change in countries around the world. For example, the character of Zepeel is inspired by Albina Ruiz, who worked to improve hygiene and living conditions with recycling programs in Lima, Peru. Similarly, the character of Beach is inspired by Guy and Neca Marcovaldi, who have set up a turtle sanctuary in Brazil.

If you'd like to check out I Love Potatoes, the game is now available for free on the App Store at the link below in English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French.

Free - Download Now
