<div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p><a href='http://www.imore.com/apple-may-have-paid-big-bucks-give-away-u2s-new-album-itunes' title="Apple may have paid big bucks to give away U2's new album on iTunes"><img src='http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/large/public/field/image/2014/09/u2_apple_event.png?itok=YdQFK8XE' />[/url]</p> <p>Apple may have given every iTunes user on the iPhone and iPad a free album from U2 this week, but a new report says Apple paid tons of money to the band and others to secure that free giveaway.</p> <!--break--> <p>The New York Times states, via unnamed sources, that Apple has committed to a $100 million marketing campaign for U2's new album, Songs of Innocence. That includes the TV commercial that debuted as part of Apple's reveal of the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch products Tuesday. In addition, the report stated Apple paid U2 and its music publisher Universal an unspecified royalty fee.</p> <div class="video_iframe"><iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nXJz3C12bWs?rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;controls=2&amp;autohide=1&amp;showinfo=0" width="627" height="353" class="video-filter video-youtube vf-nxjz3c12bws" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></div> <p>As we have reported before, the iTunes freebie will last until October 13. After that, the U2 album will be sold in stores and become available on streaming music services like Spotify. Do you think it was worth it for Apple to spend as much as nine figures for this free giveaway?</p> <p>Source: New York Times</p> </div></div></div><div id="comment-wrapper-nid-27000"></div><img width='1' height='1' src='http://tipb.com.feedsportal.com/c/33998/f/616881/s/3e6b413a/sc/5/mf.gif' border='0'/><br clear='all'/>
