BitTorrent Bleep is a P2P messenger that provides end-to-end encryption for Mac users

[/url]

BitTorrent is looking to make communications more secure with the launch of a new P2P service called Bleep. The service launched earlier this year in pre-alpha form for Windows users, and now BitTorrent is expanding the alpha program to Mac users.

Using Bleep, you can make calls and send texts to any online contacts, with the service providing end-to-end encryption. All data sent or received using the service is locally stored on your device, giving you full control over your communications. You can easily import your Google contacts, and invite others to the service via email, SMS, QR code, or a public key. The nature of the service means that you cannot send messages or call offline contacts.

When you first install the client, the P2P engine creates a unique private key that you can use across all your devices. All users are registered under incognito mode by default, and if you choose to do so, you can add your email address or mobile number, which then generates a public key that is derived from the private key. If you're looking for more information on the underlying platform that makes the service work, head on over here.

As is the case with any alpha build, Bleep on Mac comes with a few issues that are yet to be fixed. For instance, while you can receive messages on multiple devices, messages sent will not be seen across all devices.

Interested? Download Bleep from the link below, and if you find any bugs or have any feature suggestions, be sure to let BitTorrent know.

Source: BitTorrent
