Next-generation Pebble rumored to feature color screen, new OS

[/url]

It appears that Pebble is preparing to launch the next version of their popular smartwatch. As reported eariler, Pebble is counting down to something on their website, and while it's not clear exactly what that is, the company is reportedly readying a new edition of their watch that features a color e-paper display and a thinner case.

From 9to5Mac:

However, multiple sources tell us that a major update to both the Pebble's hardware and software have been in the works and that these changes could be ready to debut next week. The new watch is said to (finally) gain a slightly wider, color, e-paper-like display that will be encased in an overall thinner design.

Pebble is apparently aiming to keep battery life on the new watch on par with the current models. The new hardware also reportedly includes a microphone, as well as a new version of Pebble's operating system that has been redesigned by some of the team behind webOS, the late Palm operating system (ironically, LG is working on their own webOS-based smartwatch).

The new devices will apparently not include a touchscreen like the upcoming Apple Watch or Android Wear devices.

Pebble had previously indicated that new hardware and software would be arriving in 2015.

Source: 9to5Mac
