Peace ad blocker removed from the App Store

Arment stated that Peace's approach to blocking wasn't nuanced enough, with the app treating all ads the same.

From Marco Arment:

Peace required that all ads be treated the same — all-or-nothing enforcement for decisions that aren't black and white. This approach is too blunt, and Ghostery and I have both decided that it doesn't serve our goals or beliefs well enough. If we're going to effect positive change overall, a more nuanced, complex approach is required than what I can bring in a simple iOS app.

Before being pulled, Peace had been the number one paid app on the App Store for 36 hours. Arment didn't feel good about that level of success he says, because while ad blockers benefit many users, they also negatively impact others.

Arment went on to reiterate that he still feels that ad blockers are by and large necessary. He also says that though there will be no updates to Peace, it will continue working for a long time. However, if users would like a refund, he points them to iMore's article on how to do just that.

You can, and should, read Arment's whole post at the link below.

Source: Marco Arment
