New MacBook Pro owners report kernel panics when watching HDR YouTube

Owners of Apple's new MacBook Pros are reporting kernel panics when watching HDR YouTube videos..
People with 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are seeing their Macs crash when watching some videos via Safari.


The issue is repeatable, suggesting it might be easy to pin down.

A number of people who have picked up the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros have reported that they are experiencing kernel panics when watching HDR YouTube videos via Safari. People have been taking to online forums to report the problem with others noting that they were also able to reproduce it on their own machines, too.

According to a MacRumors report, complaints include all manner of the new machines running macOS Monterey 12.0.1. It's also pretty easy to reproduce, with some people saying that watching a video and scrolling to the comments is enough to cause their Macs to lock up.


  I'm getting the same error under the same conditions, 4k HDR YouTube playback on Safari/Chrom...
