Hackintosh OSX finder suddenly froze-- desktop blank-- sketchiness!

Hey world wide professionals:

Got this here hackintosh running osx. been working awesome, great. suddenly the desktop doesn't show the files and folders that are saved on it, and finder is only willing to show you the spinning ball of death. firefox/garage band will open. finder stays jammed. was able to look into the cpu by trying to save a garage band file and it still showed the desktop and the files that were on it.

Only change: needed to change admin password and read a post about holding apple+s on startup. tried this. dang, seems to have changed my deal.

Anybody have any ideas that might help out?
