FBI Looking Into AT&T Security Breach of iPad Email Addresses
The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced today that they were going to begin a probe into an AT&T security breach that had leaked the email addresses of well over 100,000 registered iPad owners, according to AppleInsider."The FBI is aware of these possible computer intrusions and has opened an investigation to address the potential cyber threat," FBI spokesman Jason Pack noted. The Bureau's move is only one day after the fact when AT&T had made mention of the security flaw that occurred via its website, that had made it possible for hackers to get into AT&T's database, leaking email addresses of a large number of customers that had signed up to use the 3G service."This issue was escalated to the highest levels of the company and was corrected by Tuesday," AT&T said. "We are continuing to investigate and will inform all customers whose e-mail addresses may have been obtained."As a result of what happened, about 114,000 iPad 3G user emails were hacked into by Goatse Security hackers when batches of iPad ICC-IDs were entered through specially formatted HTTP requests. The hackers automated requests of the email address information through a large realm of ICC-ID serial numbers by using a script. As we mentioned earlier, the hack revealed email addresses of multiple government and corporate higher-ups, but nothing else was made mention of.A Goatse Security rep spoke with the Wall Street Journal claiming 'it hasn't heard from law enforcement and that it didn't do anything illegal, so doesn't see why it would.'For our iPad 3G users out there, have you heard anything from AT&T yet?
