AT&T deal slashes $100 off tablets with 2-year contract

AT&T is trying to entice tablet shoppers by offering $100 discounts with a two-year data contract. The deal includes Apple iPads and Android tablets and it’s available from both AT&T stores and online.

Unlike smartphones, which are heavily subsidized by carriers and tied to hefty monthly contracts, tablets like the iPad introduced a new model, where you pay full price for the slate and pay a small month-to-month fee for a data contract.

AT&T is now offering $100 off any tablet it sells, as long as you get it with a two-year data plan. This means you’d have to pay $479 instead of $579 for a 16GB iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular, $399 instead of $499 for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, or $699 for the Samsung ATIV Windows 8 slate instead of $799.

It could be a good deal, depending on your usage habits. Do the math, and factor in the ongoing cost of the data plan.
