Transmit update removes uploading to iCloud at Apple's request

[/url]

Transmit, the popular cloud storage management app for iOS scored an update today, but that isn't the big news. Along with bug fixes, Panic, the developers behind Transmit, had to remove the app's ability to send files to other services, including iCloud, because of a conflict with Apple's guidelines.

The move was made at Apple's request as a response to Transmit's ability to upload files to iCloud. According to Panic's blog post:

In short, we're told that while Transmit iOS can download content from iCloud Drive, we cannot upload content to iCloud Drive unless the content was created in the app itself. Apple says this use would violate 2.23 — "Apps must follow the iOS Data Storage Guidelines or they will be rejected" — but oddly that page says nothing about iCloud Drive or appropriate uses for iCloud Drive.

Unfortunately, Panic can't remove the ability to upload to iCloud without also removing the feature for other services due to how iOS handles the selection of services using the upload feature.

Panic's blog post, which can be found in its entirety at the source link below, is meant to draw attention to the problem and hopefully solicit a response from Apple. For the time being however, Panic notes that Transmit still remains an incredibly useful tool, and hopefully a solution will be found sooner rather than later.

Source: Panic Blog
