Rumor: iPhone HD to be revealed on June 22nd?
It's so nice that with the iPad and the new MacBook Pros out of the way, we can get back to what really matters: iPhone rumors. AppAdvice has brought speculation back to the fore that a new iPhone, possibly the magically-powered iPhone HD, could be introduced on June 22nd. The weblog's assertion is based upon the rumblings of the Wall Street Journal and the ever-vigilant Engadget. According to Engadget, the new iPhone hotness is being manufactured by Hon Hai Precision Industry. If you've been keeping track, they're the same Taiwanese outfit that has been assembling the iPhone since 2007. There's also some scuttlebutt to be had for you AT&T haters as well: a CDMA version of the iPhone will be pieced together by Pegatron this September. None of this information is really new, but what makes today's gossip mongering truly special are two things: The fact that Apple has reserved the Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco and that June 22nd - a Tuesday - fits in nicely with when Apple has historically made similar iPhone announcements.Enter the Unicorns: It's one thing to speculate on manufacturers and release dates, but the iPhone rumor magic really happens once the pundits and "people briefed on the matter" start flapping their gums as to what they've seen in their crystal balls. It's a rare thing to see an Apple product leaked accurately months in advance, but here's speculated consensus all the same:The fourth generation iPhone will be dubbed the iPhone HDIt will have an A4-class SoC chip under the hoodScreen resolution will be enlarged to 960x640The design will incorporate a front-facing camera for video chatWhen you pair up these smoke and mirror handset specs up with with what we now know about the iPhone OS 4.0 operating system, we could very well have the makings for yet another winning smartphone on our hands. It goes without saying that we'll keep you posted on this one.
