A roundup of the 20 best Mac MMO games

[/url]

Our friends over at MacGamerHQ have rounded up the 20 best massively multiplayer online games for the Mac. Which do you like?

Massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs, for short) have been popular for years. While it looks like 2015 is the year that Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (MOBAs) will unseat them in terms of revenue, they're still really fun to play. And there are a lot on the Mac, as evidenced by this list.

MMORPGs, or MMOs for short, enable dozens, hundreds or sometimes thousands of players to play in the same universe, together. While you may be off doing quests that various non-player characters (NPCs) controlled by the game have given you, you can sometimes combat directly with other players, or enlist other players' help to complete missions, explore dungeons or join a guild where all of you share in experience and loot.

MMOs are enormously popular, and have been for a number of years. The Mac doesn't have parity with the PC when it comes to games, obviously, but there are still a lot of Mac MMOs you can play.

MacGamerHQ has divided the MMOs into three categories: Subscription-based, in which you pay a predictable monthly fee to play them; one time purchase, where you pay once and play as much as you want; and free-to-play, which usually isn't free (you may be charged for premium content or other material after you've downloaded and played the game).

The Massive Multiplayer Online genre is constantly evolving. It's never easy to stay on top of all the trends, changes and newcomers, but with this guide, you will know everything there is to know about MMORPG for Mac.

There are some really great games on here like World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2. There are also some titles I'm scratching my head on, like DotA 2, which is a MOBA, not an MMO.

Regardless, there is tons of fun stuff to play on here, so make sure to check it out and download some of these when you've got some time!

What are your favorite Mac (or PC) MMOs? Sound off in the comments!
