Apple's Beats 1 station lines up shows from Elton John, Pharrell Williams, and Dr. Dre

A new interview with Beats 1's Zane Lowe has shed some light on how Apple's upcoming 24/7 radio station will work.

We now have a better idea about exactly how Apple Music's Beats 1 radio station will work, thanks to a new profile on Zane Lowe, one of the stations primary anchors. We've known that Lowe, who came to Apple from BBC Radio 1, will broadcast from Los Angeles, California with new music and interviews, but now we know what some of the other programming will look like.

A number of artists and industry figures will also have their own programs on station, including Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Dr. Dre, and others. With this lineup, Apple is hoping that Beats 1 will continuously sound new, according to The New York Times:

To keep Beats 1 sounding fresh around the world, the station will alternate one- and two-hour programming blocks by established broadcasters with those by musicians and celebrities, who will host and plan the shows themselves. Among the names on board: the teen actor Jaden Smith, the alternative singer St. Vincent, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and the British electronic duo Disclosure.

Lowe said that he hopes that Beats 1 can truly become radio for the internet age:

"Everyone keeps going to their devices because of fear of missing out," he said. "I'm constantly going on Instagram, Twitter, wondering what's going on in my friends' lives. What am I missing? I want that for radio. What's on right now, right now, that I didn't know I wanted to listen to?"

Lowe has already revealed that his first interview for Beats 1 will be rapper Eminem. Beats 1 will launch with Apple Music next Tuesday, June 30.

Source: The New York Times
