Want to listen to Apple Music on multiple devices at once? Get a Family plan

[/url]

Even without a family, you can use Apple Music's Family plan to play your music on multiple devices at once.

If you happen to live in a household where you'd like to be able to listen to Apple Music on multiple devices simultaneously, you can do so by signing up—or switching your Apple Music plan—for a family plan.

I signed up for a Family plan to test Apple Music's family sharing, and in doing so, discovered that I could simultaneously play Beats 1 on my iPhone and my Mac. COOL.

... Okay, so this isn't exactly the most useful tip of all time, but I had a lot of fun blasting my kitchen, office, and basement with Beats 1 all at the same time. There's a little bit of cross-lag—it's not quite the Sonos effect—but still fun.

It's also useful if you live in a house or apartment where you have de-facto devices for certain areas of the house. We have two old iPhones in the kitchen and bathroom for playing music there, and it makes a lot more sense to be able to throw on a playlist without having to log in to our own account, tweak, etc.

To change your subscription to a Family plan:

Tap on the Account icon in the upper left corner of the Music app (or go to Account > View Account in iTunes)

Tap on View Apple ID.

Go to Manage Subscriptions.

Tap on your Apple Music subscription.

Change it to the family plan.

To the best of my knowledge, you don't have to turn on Family Sharing in your iCloud preferences to enable multi-device streaming with your Apple Music Family plan.

Hope this helps! Now, back to the Apple Music tip grind.

Apple Music

Apple Music FAQ

Apple Music help

Apple Music news

Apple Music discussion
