Apple reportedly teaching Siri how to transcribe your voicemail via SMS

Apple is reportedly working to have Siri transcribe your voicemails and forward them to your iPhone as an SMS. According to Business Insider, this new feature is set to launch in 2016, and will essentially enable you to take your voicemail messages with you in text form.

It's not unusual for voicemails to rack up messages as people simply don't get round to hearing what others have to say. That and spam or unwanted contact. With Siri able to transcribe your voicemails and having Apple Cloud send them to your iPhone as an SMS, you'd be able to quickly check and delete as you go.

As Business Insider reports:

"Here is how it works: When someone using iCloud Voicemail is unable to take a call, Siri will answer instead of letting the call go to a standard digital audio recorder. iCloud Voicemail can relay information about where you are and why you can't pick up the phone to certain people. But the coolest feature of the service is that Siri will transcribe any incoming voicemails, just like it does with anything else you say to it."

It's believed voicemails will be transcribed on Apple's end, with your iPhone having to do little but receive said messages. It could prove a useful tool, especially for those who don't have time to sit through their voicemails but would like to know who contacted them and why.

Voicemails aside, Siri is also set to become more intelligent in iOS 9. It seems a plausible advancement for the company and its virtual assistant once the upcoming iOS release is out the doors.

Source: Bloomberg
