Apple Music hosted 25 million streams for Dr. Dre's 'Compton' album

Apple also stated that the same album had close to 500,000 downloads on iTunes.</p>  <p>Apple broke that news to The New York Times:</p>

<p>"We're beginning to show what we can do in terms of communicating music to a worldwide audience and helping artists at the same time," said Jimmy Iovine, the former record executive who helped build the new service after Apple paid $3 billion last year for Beats, the electronics company and music brand he started with Dr. Dre.</p>

<p>However, "Compton", which also serves as an unofficial tie-in to this weekend's NWA biopic "Straight Outta Compton", will still not be the number one album of the week, according to Billboard. It will have to settle for the Number 2 slot, behind "Kill the Lights", the latest from country star Luke Bryan.</p> <p>The New York Times also points out that the streaming numbers from "Compton", while good, were not spectacular either:</p>

<p>Drake's "If You're Reading This It's Too Late," released in February, had 48 million streams in one week, while Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp a Butterfly" had nearly 39 million in March. Those albums benefited from the popularity of Spotify, which has 20 million subscribers around the world, and another 55 million people who listen to the service free with advertising."</p>
