electric car project apparently forced one smaller company to shutdown operations after Apple recruited a large swath of its top talent. Mission Motors, a company that had been developing an all-electric motorcycle, shut down operations in May 2015 after several top engineers reportedly went to Apple.</p> <!--break--> <p>From

<p>Some close to Mission Motors said it had reached a point of no return by last fall, when departures to Apple, and other companies, accelerated after a long struggle to find funding and a sound business model.</p> <p>But former Chief Executive Derek Kaufman thinks the company could have carried on if it had not lost key employees, undermining efforts to raise funding.</p>
<p>Mission's engineering team specialized in electric drive system hardware and software. Apple's hires from Mission reportedly include former vice president of electrical engineering Nancy Sun, along with power train systems director Mark Sherwood.</p> <p>Apple has been rumored to be working on an electric vehicle, reportedly set to debut as early as 2019 or 2020. Though the company will likely not announce the car until around that time, they have apparently
taken meetings with California DMV officials about autonomous vehicles as well.</p> <p>Source:
