'Secret team' reportedly working on App Store changes, including paid search resultsApple has reportedly assembled a "secret team" dedicated to exploring different strategies for improving discovery on the App Store. According to Bloomberg, the biggest change said to be in the works is paid search, a method through which developers could pay to have their apps featured more prominently in search results.
From Bloomberg:
Among the ideas being pursued, Apple is considering paid search, a Google-like model in which companies would pay to have their app shown at the top of search results based on what a customer is seeking. For instance, a game developer could pay to have its program shown when somebody looks for "football game," "word puzzle" or "blackjack."
In all, the report says the team is composed of around 100 employees, including a number of engineers from Apple's iAd team. The team is also said to be looking to improve the way people browse the App Store, but no specifics were given.
