Colorado Man Loses Part of His Finger in iPad Heist

A man lost part of his finger on Thursday when thieves followed him from the Apple Store and stole the iPad he just bought, according to a KCNC-TV Denver report.Bill Jordan of Aurora, Colorado lost a piece of his left pinky when a thief grabbed the Apple-branded shopping bag containing the iPad he had just purchased minutes before at Cherry Creek Mall in Denver. Jordan had the bag's drawstrings wrapped around his hand.Jordan told KCNC reporter Tom Mustin that the experience left him in shock, and he later had to have part of his finger amputated."He was almost sitting on the ground he was pulling so hard and it was still tied around my fingers," Jordan told Mustin. "It wouldn't come off and then finally he gave it one big jerk, and that's when he stripped the skin off my pinky and it went right down to the bone."Denver Police released a surveillance video of the theft to the TV station, but did not post a copy to their website.Being a television station, KCNC-TV's video report is available at their website, which does not permit embedding of video. Though this iPad was taken before it could be used, Mac|Life has been concerned that users of Apple's newest device could be targets for thieves. To our recent reportage of ways to foil thieves and protect yourself, we'll add one more suggestion: don't wrap thin drawstrings around your hand. Straps, maybe. Drawstrings, no.
