Game Awards: Sonic Frontiers is the hedgehog's first open-world adventure

What you need to know


Today The Game Awards are taking place.
New footage for Sonic Frontiers, an "open-zone" game was shown.  
It will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, X| S, and PC.
It releases holiday 2022.


During today's The Game Awards, we got to see a bunch of new video game premiers and announcements. One of these was the official reveal for Sonic's upcoming open-world game, Sonic Frontiers. However, Sega is referring to it as an "open-zone" game, keeping with Sonic vernacular. This game was originally teased during Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary stream, but the name hadn't been officially confirmed until now.





In the video, we see Sonic running through vast forests and realistic-looking world. During the short video, the blue blur runs around massive ruins with plant life growing all over them hinting at a civilization that has mysteriously ceased to be.
