Amazon tablet sale brings the Fire HD 8 down to $60

<p>Amazon has kicked off another round of discounts for its Fire tablet lineup, with <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Amazon;elmt:;cpos:1;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=66ea567a-c987-4c2e-a2ff-02904efde6ea&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Amazon&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsInN0b3JlSWQiOiI2NmVhNTY3YS1jOTg3LTRjMmUtYTJmZi0wMjkwNGVmZGU2ZWEiLCJsYW5kaW5nVXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYW1hem9uLmNvbS9kZWFsLzk2MmJlZWQzP3RhZz1nZGd0MGMtcC1vLW5rLTIwIiwiY29udGVudFV1aWQiOiJkZGI4MmVhZC1iNTc2LTRjMTUtYWM2Ny05MjQzMWFkYmZlYzMifQ&amp;signature=AQAAAcstxR22wNJfKFSxRBejvhXK8LS1FyQ9BEaTz8RzMQpv&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fdeal%2F962beed3" class="rapid-with-clickid">both standard and <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Amazon;elmt:;cpos:2;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=66ea567a-c987-4c2e-a2ff-02904efde6ea&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Amazon&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsInN0b3JlSWQiOiI2NmVhNTY3YS1jOTg3LTRjMmUtYTJmZi0wMjkwNGVmZGU2ZWEiLCJsYW5kaW5nVXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYW1hem9uLmNvbS9kZWFsLzkzNjhmNDVkP3RhZz1nZGd0MGMtcC1vLW5rLTIwIiwiY29udGVudFV1aWQiOiJkZGI4MmVhZC1iNTc2LTRjMTUtYWM2Ny05MjQzMWFkYmZlYzMifQ&amp;signature=AQAAAUoDv-CRLo2zY35jr9JtckEFeW94DxM85B_2DFwYMutS&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fdeal%2F9368f45d" class="rapid-with-clickid">Kids models on sale. That's $5 more than the all-time low we saw over the holiday season, but still about $25 off the eight-inch tablet's typical street price since <a data-i13n="cpos:4;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/amazon-fire-hd-8-plus-kids-tablet-2022-price-release-date-130025038.html">it arrived last September and $40 off Amazon's MSRP.&nbsp;</p><p><core-commerce id="167b0e67a4094d6c8cd0d45688695017" data-type="product-list"></core-commerce></p><p>Fire tablets as a whole have had the same drawbacks for many years now: They don't come with access to the Google Play Store or official Google apps <a data-i13n="cpos:5;pos:1" href="https://www.androidpolice.com/install-play-store-amazon-fire-tablet/">by default, their hardware is neither as fast nor as nice-feeling as <a data-i13n="cpos:6;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/best-ipads-how-to-pick-the-best-apple-tablet-for-you-150054066.html">a good iPad, and the non-Kids models come with lock screen ads unless you <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Amazon;elmt:;cpos:7;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=66ea567a-c987-4c2e-a2ff-02904efde6ea&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Amazon&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsInN0b3JlSWQiOiI2NmVhNTY3YS1jOTg3LTRjMmUtYTJmZi0wMjkwNGVmZGU2ZWEiLCJsYW5kaW5nVXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYW1hem9uLmNvbS9ncC9oZWxwL2N1c3RvbWVyL2Rpc3BsYXkuaHRtbD9ub2RlSWQ9R0pIWVdVVVJKNUE2WU1CVSZ0YWc9Z2RndDBjLXAtby1uay0yMCIsImNvbnRlbnRVdWlkIjoiZGRiODJlYWQtYjU3Ni00YzE1LWFjNjctOTI0MzFhZGJmZWMzIn0&amp;signature=AQAAAbe_Hml45mPtD3qURxJFyJGF8I-6xfz7Al-ZMYs3D_oC&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3FnodeId%3DGJHYWUURJ5A6YMBU" class="rapid-with-clickid">pay extra. They make up for that, however, by being extremely affordable, and offering just enough performance to get by if all you need is a larger screen for reading, streaming video and casually browsing the web.</p><span id="end-legacy-contents"></span><p>The Fire HD 8 is likely the cheapest acceptable tablet for most people. It's made of plastic, and its 1,280 x 800 resolution display isn't as sharp as a full 1080p screen. Still, it's durable, its battery should last more than 10 hours on a charge, it charges over USB-C and you can expand its 32GB of storage up to 1TB with a microSD card. While it won't feel fast, it's serviceable if you stick to the basics, and its display gets bright enough. As with all Fire tablets, you'll get more out of it if you already subscribe to Amazon Prime and use services like Prime Video, Audible or the Kindle app. It's not a great value at full price, but its shortcomings should be easier to accept at this deal price.</p><p>Elsewhere in the sale, <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Amazon;elmt:;cpos:8;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=66ea567a-c987-4c2e-a2ff-02904efde6ea&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Amazon&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsInN0b3JlSWQiOiI2NmVhNTY3YS1jOTg3LTRjMmUtYTJmZi0wMjkwNGVmZGU2ZWEiLCJsYW5kaW5nVXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYW1hem9uLmNvbS9BbWF6b24tT2ZmaWNpYWwtU2l0ZS1GaXJlLUhELUtpZHMtOC1UYWJsZXQtOC1pbmNoLURpc3BsYXktMjAyMi1yZWxlYXNlL2RwL0IwOUJHNUxGR1M_dGFnPWdkZ3QwYy1wLW8tbmstMjAiLCJjb250ZW50VXVpZCI6ImRkYjgyZWFkLWI1NzYtNGMxNS1hYzY3LTkyNDMxYWRiZmVjMyJ9&amp;signature=AQAAATgcK1VmWygnedHKLaP1bJvDWhA7vnKkUi1Q3pDeY15E&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FAmazon-Official-Site-Fire-HD-Kids-8-Tablet-8-inch-Display-2022-release%2Fdp%2FB09BG5LFGS" class="rapid-with-clickid">the Kids and <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Amazon;elmt:;cpos:9;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=66ea567a-c987-4c2e-a2ff-02904efde6ea&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Amazon&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsInN0b3JlSWQiOiI2NmVhNTY3YS1jOTg3LTRjMmUtYTJmZi0wMjkwNGVmZGU2ZWEiLCJsYW5kaW5nVXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYW1hem9uLmNvbS9BbWF6b24tT2ZmaWNpYWwtU2l0ZS1GaXJlLUhELUtpZHMtOC1Qcm8tVGFibGV0LTgtaW5jaC1EaXNwbGF5LTIwMjItcmVsZWFzZS9kcC9CMDlCRzYzWk1NP3RhZz1nZGd0MGMtcC1vLW5rLTIwIiwiY29udGVudFV1aWQiOiJkZGI4MmVhZC1iNTc2LTRjMTUtYWM2Ny05MjQzMWFkYmZlYzMifQ&amp;signature=AQAAAXt6xRwXEDwhW8GKYp9CZK1sUaM6NisREC0-W75YWLby&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FAmazon-Official-Site-Fire-HD-Kids-8-Pro-Tablet-8-inch-Display-2022-release%2Fdp%2FB09BG63ZMM" class="rapid-with-clickid">Kids Pro versions of the Fire HD 8 are each down to $100.
