Nintendo kicks off the summer with pastel-hued Joy-Con controllers

<p>Nintendo has a solution if <a data-i13n="cpos:1;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/nintendo-switch-oled-review-130025998.html">your Switch is looking a little drab, or if you need an extra controller pair for a Mario Kart session. The company is releasing Joy-Con controllers in two pastel color combos, <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Nintendo;elmt:;cpos:2;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=21fc7c82-c5eb-49a9-b5d3-fc32a78290de&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Nintendo&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsInN0b3JlSWQiOiIyMWZjN2M4Mi1jNWViLTQ5YTktYjVkMy1mYzMyYTc4MjkwZGUiLCJsYW5kaW5nVXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubmludGVuZG8uY29tL3N0b3JlL3Byb2R1Y3RzL2pveS1jb24tbC1yLXBhc3RlbC1wdXJwbGUtcGFzdGVsLWdyZWVuLTExNzA3OC8iLCJjb250ZW50VXVpZCI6Ijk1N2FlYTJjLTRhZWYtNGIzMS1iZDA1LTcyZDdjZThiMzQ1MCJ9&amp;signature=AQAAAe2zWSA7EdNmHZyQk9Gk2Q_VETapL6guuqgJ-CHQv-WN&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nintendo.com%2Fstore%2Fproducts%2Fjoy-con-l-r-pastel-purple-pastel-green-117078%2F" class="rapid-with-clickid">purple/green and <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Nintendo;elmt:;cpos:3;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=21fc7c82-c5eb-49a9-b5d3-fc32a78290de&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Nintendo&amp;custData=eyJzb3VyY2VOYW1lIjoiV2ViLURlc2t0b3AtVmVyaXpvbiIsInN0b3JlSWQiOiIyMWZjN2M4Mi1jNWViLTQ5YTktYjVkMy1mYzMyYTc4MjkwZGUiLCJsYW5kaW5nVXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubmludGVuZG8uY29tL3N0b3JlL3Byb2R1Y3RzL2pveS1jb24tbC1yLXBhc3RlbC1waW5rLXBhc3RlbC15ZWxsb3ctMTE3MDc3LyIsImNvbnRlbnRVdWlkIjoiOTU3YWVhMmMtNGFlZi00YjMxLWJkMDUtNzJkN2NlOGIzNDUwIn0&amp;signature=AQAAAR5L1ksCUux2lJOOvLvwv6MzwHyq6F0abxNB1YpIcPT6&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nintendo.com%2Fstore%2Fproducts%2Fjoy-con-l-r-pastel-pink-pastel-yellow-117077%2F" class="rapid-with-clickid">pink/yellow, on June 30th. Both sell for the same $80 as other shades and deliver the same combination of motion control and "HD rumble" as before.</p><p>Additional controllers are must-haves for games with local multiplayer, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, a Joy-Con set in particular is useful for any titles with motion controls (such as Arms) or four-person multiplayer (like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe). It's often a good idea to get Joy-Cons in different colors so that there's no ambiguity as to which units are yours.</p><span id="end-legacy-contents"></span><p>This isn't going to address the potential for <a data-i13n="cpos:4;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/nintendo-offers-unlimited-free-repairs-for-joy-con-drift-issue-in-europe-062645235.html">Joy-Con drift, and you may want a Pro Controller if you prefer a conventional gamepad. There are some <a data-i13n="cpos:5;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/best-nintendo-switch-controllers-160034389.html">good third-party alternatives, too. Still, this adds some welcome variety. You now have your pick of six color pairings, most of which weren't available when the Switch launched.
