Hori’s officially licensed Steam controller comes to the US on December 16

<p>Hori is bringing its <a data-i13n="cpos:1;pos:1" href="https://stores.horiusa.com/hpc-055U">officially licensed Steam controller to the good ole US of A. The company <a data-i13n="elm:affiliate_link;sellerN:Amazon;elmt:;cpos:2;pos:1" href="https://shopping.yahoo.com/rdlw?merchantId=66ea567a-c987-4c2e-a2ff-02904efde6ea&amp;siteId=us-engadget&amp;pageId=1p-autolink&amp;contentUuid=144c1c68-bf4b-4f8e-9e48-2fdbb67f5bcd&amp;featureId=text-link&amp;merchantName=Amazon&amp;custData=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&amp;signature=AQAAAaV3phsFD6t6opRUqHu70Bqp7DeqkHlQ1oJ_nuiTGw41&amp;gcReferrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FWireless-HORIPAD-Steam-Midnight-Black-Deck%2Fdp%2FB0DLLKRFG8%2F" class="rapid-with-clickid" data-original-link="https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-HORIPAD-Steam-Midnight-Black-Deck/dp/B0DLLKRFG8/">listed the gamepad on Amazon, with an availability date of December 16. Preorders are open right now and the controller costs $60.</p>
<p>This Steam-focused gamepad was originally released back in October, but only in Japan. It boasts a big button to pull up the Steam menu and touch sensors on the joysticks for motion controls. It also ships with mappable back buttons. The gamepad connects to a computer, or a Steam Deck, via Bluetooth. To that end, it ships with a USB-A Bluetooth receiver.</p> <span id="end-legacy-contents"></span>
<p>Hori says the Steam controller will work for around 12 hours on a full charge, though it can operate while charging via USB cable. The controller menu in Steam also allows for making adjustments, like changing stick sensitivity and gyro controls.</p>
<p>There are a couple of slight omissions. The controller has no rumble functionality, nor does it boast a trackpad or a headphone jack. If you can get over those issues, this looks like a mighty fine way to work through that ever-growing Steam collection. Hori <a data-i13n="cpos:3;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/best-nintendo-switch-controllers-160034389.html">makes good stuff.</p>
<p>As for Valve, it discontinued <a data-i13n="cpos:4;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/2019-11-27-valve-steam-controller-sale-discontinued.html">its own Steam controller back in 2019. That gamepad was notable because it could be configured in a myriad of different ways <a data-i13n="cpos:5;pos:1" href="https://www.engadget.com/2016-07-03-six-months-with-the-steam-controller.html">to suit unique gameplay styles.</p>
