Waiting Lists & Misery Await iPad 3G Buyers at Apple Stores

If you didn’t get a 3G-equipped iPad within the last week, chances are you’re now faced with waiting another week (or longer) to get one.AppleInsider is reporting that a survey of 10 Apple Stores across the United States found that they were all completely sold out of the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G models, in all storage capacities. A few of those stores were also sold out of the Wi-Fi only iPad model, while others reported limited stock. If you want a 3G iPad from your local Apple Store -- only a week after they were finally made available -- chances are that you’ll now have to sign up for Apple’s “Notify Me” service, which puts you in first position to buy one as soon as they’re in stock again. You’ll receive an e-mail from Apple when that glorious day arrives, and then you’ll have 24 hours to pick it up or lose your spot to the next guy (or gal) in line.Interested in the “Notify Me” service? AppleInsider notes that some locations required potential customers to come into the store in person to sign up, although the majority were able to do it over the phone. You won’t have any better luck at Apple.com, either -- at this writing, the website is currently showing availability of five to seven days for all models of iPad, regardless of storage capacity.Last Friday’s debut of the iPad 3G helped pushed Apple over the one million sold mark, as the company announced on Monday. That sets a new record for Apple portable devices, taking only 28 days to hit the goal. Several surveys have found that the most popular iPad 3G model is also the least expensive 16GB model, which costs $629.
