iPad Preorders Kick Off Overseas

(Image courtesy of AppleInsider)Apple began laying the groundwork for the overseas domination of the iPad on Sunday, kicking off preorder sales on seven of their international online stores, with two more to come.AppleInsider is reporting that the rest of the world got one step closer to the iPad on Sunday as several Apple international web stores went dark briefly and then came back online, ready to accept preorders for the latest offering from Cupertino. The news was expected, as Apple previously announced that international preorders would begin on May 10th, with the device finally landing in customer’s hands on May 28th.Seven countries are currently accepting preorders for the iPad: Australia (the first to go live on Sunday), France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the U.K. The device is also expected to go on sale in Canada and Japan on May 28th, but at this writing the iPad wasn’t yet listed on those Apple stores. In keeping with the U.S. restriction, customers are limited to two iPads per customer. AppleInsider has collected the various preorder pricing from the seven stores offering the device, which generally include VAT; U.S. prices appear lower because sales tax is added to the price at the time of the sale.Wi-Fi-only iPad:16GB - €479 Europe, £429 U.K., $549 Canadian, $629 Australian32GB - €579 Europe, £499 U.K., $649 Canadian, $759 Australian64GB - €679 Europe, £599 U.K., $749 Canadian, $879 AustralianWi-Fi + 3G iPad16GB - €579 Europe, £529 U.K., $679 Canadian, $799 Australian32GB - €679 Europe, £599 U.K., $779 Canadian, $928 Australian64GB - €779 Europe, £699 U.K., $879 Canadian, $1,049 AustralianNext in line for the iPad launch is Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore in July, with nine additional countries to be announced at a later date.
