Up close with iOS 5: Notification improvements
      
         

 iOS notifications have come a long way since their introduction in iPhone OS 3.0. With iOS 5, the blue pop-up notification is no more; it has been replaced by a system of banners, alerts, and a pull-down Notification Center.
