In Case You Missed It: May 31 - June 6
Tomorrow is the big day, and we're sure you will all be glued to your Twitter feeds and this site hitting refresh refresh refresh for all the latest and greatest news from the WWDC and especially Steve Jobs' keynote address. We all know the fourth generation iPhone handset will be officially announced at the event, but will it go on sale on the floor as some have speculated? And what about iPhone OS 4.0? Will we be getting that tomorrow too? Only time will tell, so while you wait don't just sit there twiddling your thumbs, enjoy the best of Mac|Life from the previous week. Features: - The Complete History of the WWDC Keynote - Twenty-seven big years of announcements, hot new software, even hotter new hardware, all under one roof at THE place to be if you develop products for Apple products.- It's Coming: Preparing for iPhone OS 4.0 - The upgrade from OS 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 then to 3.1.3 were all cool in their ways (MMS!), but we expect OS 4.0 to totally change almost every way we use our iPhones. Here's how to make sure you're prepared. Reviews: - Review Roundup - iPad Stands - There are a lot of stand makers out there vying to make the next killer accessory. All of these have their strengths and weaknesses, but in the words of Bono, we still haven't found what we're looking for. - Adobe Photoshop CS5 - The question with software updates is whether you really need it right away or how long can you put off buying it? With features like the amazing Content Aware Fill, it'll be pretty hard to pass up Photoshop CS5, even if you don't update the rest of the suite. How-Tos:- How-to: Make a Tilt-Shift Picture - Speaking of Photoshop, one of the cooler fun tricks is to turn a picture into a tilt-shift version of itself. Tilt-shift is when you adjust a photo's perspective to make it resemble incredibly realistic toys instead of cars and buildings. It's complicated, but you know Mac|Life's got your back. - iPhone and iPad Tips of the Week - It's an all AT&T jamboree in this week's recurring feature of news you can use for iPhones and iPadders. Best tip in here is how to tell how much data you're consuming. With everyone's love-to-hate carrier throttling down the data usage for iPhone users, it's a snap to find out how much you typically use, so you can choose your rate carefully. News: Looks like the international release of the iPad was big enough of a launch to record a measurable uptick in online mobile internet usage...we can only imagine what the spike would look like stateside if the rumors of Verizon testing out Apple products turns out to be true...of course, while they may be testing products, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be bringing any to market anytime soon, which is what Verizon's spokesperson straight up and said...AT&T wasted no time with the iPad's huge popularity and is even pre-selling 3G plans to die-hards who haven't even received their iPad orders; can that be legal? ... apparently the upcoming iPhone OS upgrade won't allow for tethering for your iPad, and the problem isn't on the carrier's end, which is a shock in and of itself...also on the Apple end of things, more App Store news; when an app which had already been approved, My Frame, gets the boot it might just be revealing about new OS plans...and in the not revealing category, we have this nifty little Japanese case for the iPad. No one will know your secret. The window is shutting if you want to use your iPhone's Skpe service over 3G; they unlocked it for just a tiny time period, but that time period is the teaser to get you to pay for it in the future...speaking of paying for it, AT&T decides it's time to put a cap on data usage....and here's how that kind of data usage breaks down, so if you don't use over 2GB, then let's not hear a bunch of whining, all right?...even if the AT&T CEO is the whiniest baby you've ever heard of, sending a cease & desist letter threatening legal action for EMAILING him, that guy's out of his head...and speaking of "out of" (nice segueway, no?), apparently Apple is plum outta 3G handsets for the iPhone...which of course is the opening for this baby, the fourth generation handset in these leaked pictures of the all white model....and who needs folders on your OS 4.0, especially when you can just download one mega app crammed with 100 utilities; everything you need in one place!
