Apple to unveil fourth-quarter earnings on Oct 25

Apple announced on Monday evening that it would host its next earnings call on October 25. The call will cover the company’s earnings for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2012—as those who haven't previously paid attention to Apple's fiscal calendar might notice, it doesn’t quite match up with the one employed by the Calendar app.

As always, the call will kick off at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET) on Oct 25, likely with Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer at the helm. Thanks in part to record iPad sales, Apple’s third fiscal quarter this year recorded $35 billion in sales, which was up 22 percent from the previous year; profits leaped 20.5 percent to $8.8 billion for that quarter.

Last year’s fourth-quarter results were strong: Apple recorded $28.87 billion in revenue at $6.62 billion in profit for that quarter.

During last quarter’s call, Oppenheimer told analysts to expect revenue of $34 billion for the fourth quarter, with earnings of $7.65 a share. That compares to 2011 fourth-quarter revenues of $28.27 billion and earnings per share of $7.02. In terms of its financials, at least, Apple typically under-promises and over-delivers.

Macworld will offer live coverage of the Oct. 25 earnings call beginning shortly before 2 p.m. PT on that day.
