Microsoft Virtual PC works as an emulation program for a Mac OS X system running on PowerPC processor. While serving as a virtualization program for Windows, it virtualizes a PC and its hardware associated with it. At times due to drive format incompatibility issues, when you connect a USB or FireWire hard drive to a Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac, you might fail to install and access it.

Thus, to troubleshoot such situations, you will need to reformat the hard drive to make it compatible with the system. Doing so causes complete data loss and require you to restore the lost data from backup. But if backup fails to restore, you need to use Hard Drive Recovery solutions to completely recover and restore data. For an instance, you try to access an external USB or FireWire hard drive through a Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac v6.1, but fail in your attempts. Also, when you try to install the same hard drive to the guest operating system, the Virtual PC or machine might hang. The similar behavior might also be observed when you perform similar steps in Connectix Virtual PC for Mac v6.0.

Virtual PC for Mac were originally developed by Connectix and later acquired by Microsoft.

Cause

Following are few reasons from which the above stated problem root:

A FireWire port is not emulated by Virtual PC virtual machine The USB external hard drive or its drivers are incompatible with Virtual PC Hard drive is formatted with a Windows file system.

Solution

You need to use these methods to reproduce the above behavior:

You can share this external hard drive to use in Windows Reformat the entire hard drive with HFS or HFS+ format and restore lost data from backup.

You need to use Hard Drive Recovery Software if data backup seems to be useless or absent. Built with superior scanning technology, these commercial Hard Drive Recovery utilities provide complete data recovery while without altering the original information. These are graphically rich applications that scan the affected hard drive using high end scanning algorithms.

Stellar Information Systems Limited provides effective data recovery utilities for Macintosh, Windows, Linux, UNIX and Novell operating systems. These are safe, reliable and fast recovery products that are designed with powerful recovery techniques. Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery is an advanced and exceptionally realistic Hard Drive Recovery Software that supports HFS, HFS+, HFSX, HFS Wrapper and FAT file systems.
