Of note is the fact that Apple highlighted Wagner's experience with M&A, or mergers and acquisitions, to her seat on the board. Though it's still too early to tell if Apple will be aggressively acquiring more companies after its $3 billion purchase of Beats, Wagner could help Cook and company do so if needed.

"We believe her strong experience, especially in M&A and building a global business across both developed and emerging markets, will be extremely valuable as Apple continues to grow around the world," Apple CEO Tim Cook said of his newest board member.

In addition to serving on Apple's board, Wagner will continue with her current engagements, including service on "boards of BlackRock and DSP BlackRock (India), as well as Swiss Re, Wellesley College and Hackley School."

Source: Apple PR
