Once you've enabled restrictions, you can simply tell iOS what types of content you want to block, such as music with explicit lyrics, rated R films, and more.

How to block explicit content with parental controls for iPhone and iPad

Launch the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad you want to block content on.

Tap on General.

Tap on Restrictions.

Tap on Enable Restrictions at the top if they aren't already enabled. If they are, skip to step 6.

Choose a 4-digit passcode that only you will know. Never give this passcode to your child.

Under the Allowed Content section, go through the list and tap in each section. Choose the highest level of rated content you want your child to be able to view.

That's all there is to it. Press the Home button to return to the Home screen. It's now safe to hand over the iPhone or iPad. If you ever want to make changes to the selections you made, just follow the same directions again. Be sure to close out of restrictions each time before handing over the device again.

When it comes to websites, the filters are more advanced and you can control what websites someone can and can't visit. For a better overview of how to restrict specific websites, you can check out our guide:

How to block adult websites and other web pages in Safari

If you use restrictions on an iPhone or iPad in your home, how have they worked for you? Are there any features you'd like to see Apple add in future versions of iOS when it comes to restricting and filtering content?
